Nestled in the Canary Islands, Lanzarote sailing courses are a sure way to escape from the monotony of everyday life and pick up an exhilarating new hobby. What’s more, membership with the Royal Yacht Association makes it easy for novices to gain the experience needed to squeeze the most fun out of Lanzarote Sailing Holidays.

RYA sailing courses, providing the necessary training and examinations for proper sailing and are available at a number of locations across the UK, making the qualification process simple and easy for anyone who wants to learn to sail. There are, however, several reasons to complete the training and qualification process at a Lanzarote resort itself, making Lanzarote sailing courses an attractive learning process for tourists and visitors alike.

One benefit of learning to sail here is rather than have to use imitation lines or phony sails, you can literally hop onto a real-life yacht and begin the necessary training. What’s more, the experience of Lanzarote’s veteran sailors gives you the advantage of tips and true-to-life stories of sailing in the North Atlantic.

Another benefit is unlike a sailing training course based in the UK, Lanzarote sailing courses offered by the RYA allow you to become familiar with a yacht’s mechanics and design in as little as two days. During these RYA sailing courses, even the greenest sailor will become familiar with nautical terminology, parts of a sailboat, safety and courtesy on the open seas, the intricacies of GPS technology and navigation, as well as the most fun parts — using the sails and lines for leverage against the wind!

A one-week charter holiday may have navigation stretches of up to fifty miles, making it possible for you and your family to sail to nearby isles once you have completed the prerequisite training. Once you have mastered the ins and outs of Lanzarote Sailing Courses, you may even be able to participate in the yearly excursions and races about the Canary Isles. This, however, requires advanced students and more preparation. Nevertheless, even the basics of sailing turn into an adventure once you are on the open sea.

Rya courses available on the island include RYA day skipper, coastal skipper, yachtmaster coastal and offshore to name but a few.

The benefits of sailing holidays in Lanzarote are not only restricted to the water though because no matter what your idea of a relaxing holiday is you’ll be able to find any type of luxury or simple accommodation when booking a Lanzarote sailing holiday.

The isle contains numerous resorts and retreats, offering everything from golf getaways to warm white beaches to surfing to horseback riding for those that don’t want to spend all their time on the water. You can even eliminate the stress of the outside world with therapeutic spa treatment, baths, yoga classes, and rejuvenating tours of the island’s scenery.

The most popular resorts on the island include Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise and of course Puerto Calero with its world-class marina, and if you fancy going native there are plenty of rural villas situated away from the main resort areas if you are looking for peace and quiet.

On your days off or when your sailing course has finished the extra benefits of a sailing holiday in Lanzarote really become apparent as you, your group or your entire family may easily find an adventure exploring the island with its many natural and elegantly sculpted attractions.

Top of the agenda has to be a trip to Timanfaya Volcano Park, where nearly three hundred active volcanoes present visitors with unmatched scenery and sounds. You can even eat at restaurant here that uses the natural heat still emanating from deep underground to cook your meal.

Also take time out to visit the Cesar Manrique Foundation where you’ll experience the inspiration of the main architect of Lanzarotes many natural attractions and see how his home was built into the very fabric of a lava field. Other attractions to add to your agenda include Monumento Al Campesino, the Cactus Garden, the Green Caves or any one of the islands many museums.

Once you’ve spent time exploring the many attractions, take to the picture-perfect beaches to soak up the rays, and if you can plan a day trip to the beach at Papagayo which is regarded as the most stunning on the island and the warmest.

While there are many benefits of sailing holidays in Lanzarote given that the island has so much to offer, ultimately its the sailing adventure and lure of the open seas that tends to be the main focus for novice and experts alike, and for very good reasons.

In the full size marine world, propellers today remain the most popular method of propulsion for motor vessels. In the past, ship builders used just two blade propellers because the capacity/power of the propulsion engines was low.

Over the years, with increased engine power came the new problem of ‘cavitation’ and vibration. During cavitation, water in the region of the propeller blade changes to vapour due to a reduction in local water pressure. Erosion of the propeller surface occurs a a result of cavitation. Thus, multi-blade propellers with large surface areas were developed to combat these problems.

This ear, the “Raboesch®” company has produced an entirely new range of propellers designed to satisfy all dynamics and scale equirements while also increasing the range of applications for which Raboesch propellers are suitable. During the design of our propellers we have tried to compromise between the conflicting requirements of power output and correct scale proportion.

Our propellers are made from brass and are delivered in left-hand or right-hand versions. You can choose from M3 – M4 – M5 metric and – 3/16″ screw threads. In addition, we have enlarged our range by introducing extra stainless steel shafts (see code 350-61/68 on page 14) in order to cater for every eventuality in coupling/shaft/propeller choice when fitting out your model.

Choosing a luxury motor yacht requires an in-depth analysis of personal requirements, as well as a broad understanding of what the current options are. There are many fine yachts now available, most are tagged at a price which makes them the preserve of the world’s rich and famous.

Before you start to consider any option seriously, you should carry out a respectable amount of research, this should in part involve discussing various designs and models with other owners of luxury yachts. If you are to invest a sum of money that would make most people gasp, you need to be one hundred per cent certain that the vessel you have your eyes on is the right option for you and your family.

If you have never owned a marine craft before, it is important to seek advice from the experts. Luxury yachts can be had in many different sizes, styles, and configurations, only a seasoned mind would be able to put forward suggestions as to the benefits and pitfalls of one design over another. The best place to start your research is online, there is a wealth of information accessible today through the Net in relation to identifying which craft may best match your budget and expectations.

To help broaden your knowledge of the topic, it can be worth visiting a boat show or two. Being able to view various motor yachts in person will give you a much more balanced idea as to your options than if compared to doing all your research online. Likewise, a trip to a local marina would allow you to check out a broad selection of craft, if you are a good talker you may even be able to get yourself invited on board a number of vessels.

At the end of the day, a luxury motor yacht is the perfect possession for people who love the thrill and excitement of traveling or entertaining in absolute style, and who can afford to invest the sum of money that such a vessel would cost. There is very little than can compare to the thrill of cruising open water in such an upmarket way.

Designing
Designing is the most important part of building a sailboat and it will require thorough research. If you have practical experience of sailing, that will help you. Research and read as much as you can about designing of sailboats and boats in general. There are many books with illustrated diagrams that instruct you how to build a sailboat. Refer these books and take advice from a sailor who can give you a fair idea about the practicalities of building a sailboat. Many companies even supply you with ready made kits for designing your sailboats, along with detailed plans.

Choose a design that suits your needs. The two important points to remember in designing is that the boat should achieve balance with speed, and of course, it should float! Start with the hull and keel design and move upwards. Draw detailed diagrams with measurements of your design. There are many ways to get this task done. Enjoy the process and make your designs as accurate as possible. A good elegant design finishes half of your job.

Costing and Inventory
After you finish your design, its time to make a list of all the raw materials you will require to build your boat. Make a thorough review of what all you need and make an inventory. Those of you, who are curious about how much does it cost to build a sailboat, may at this stage get an idea about the total cost by adding up the market prices for each raw material and tool required. You may have to modify your design, if the total cost does not fit into your budget!

Buying Wood and Other Raw Materials
Next step is preparing yourself for the building of the boat. Shop for the wood, the sail and other raw materials. You will also require carpentry tools and a dry dock or place for building your boat near the shore.

Marking Measurements and Wood Shaping/Cutting
Once the raw materials are available, mark your measurements on the wood according to the design. First you will have to design hull and keel. Furnish them with care, as, if there are any mistakes, there is no way you could change them.

Making The Sail Ready
Generally, a sailboat requires two sails, a main sail and a head sail. These two sails essentially trap the wind to power your boat in the water. The sail material should be tough, so that it does not tear under high wind pressure. Special type of fabrics, which can withstand high stress should be used. Stitch your sail and make it ready for attachment, according to design.

Putting It All Together
The last step is putting it all together, to realize your dream design in actuality and then test it in water. Trust me, it is a very satisfying experience and you can’t help but get a high when you sail in your own sailboat!

Hope this outline gives you a good idea about how to build a sailboat. It is one of the most creative jobs, you could do over a summer and experience peace, sailing in your very own sailboat!
